GumTree Workbench

GumTree is an open source and multi-platform graphical user interface for performing neutron scattering and X-ray experiments. It handles the complete experiment life cycle from instrument calibration, data acquisition, and real time data analysis to results publication. The aim of the GumTree Project is to create a highly Integrated Scientific Experiment Environment ( ISEE), allowing interconnectivity and data sharing between different distributed components such as motors, detectors, user proposal database and data analysis server. GumTree is being adapted to several instrument control server systems such as TANGO, EPICS and SICS, providing an easy-to-use front-end for users and simple-to-extend model for software developers. The design of GumTree is aimed to be reusable and configurable for any scientific instrument. GumTree will be adapted to six neutron beam instruments for the OPAL reactor at ANSTO.

GumTree Top Level Projects

GumTree Projects

GumTree is an open source software package for performing scientific experiments.  It is currently developed by the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), and is in use by a number of neutron beam instruments on the OPAL research reactor.  The aim of GumTree is to provide a closed loop on data acquisition and analysis, which enables users to utilise instrument time for much more sophisticated experiments.

The GumTree project is a collaborative effort on driving the GumTree development.  Currently the GumTree project hosts the GumTree Platform (runtime) project and a number of related projects.

  • GumTree Platform - provides the runtime, as desktop or server based application, for status monitoring and workflow execution support
  • GumTree Numeric Library - a Java based library for handling data file and numerical computing
  • Kuranda Visualisation Toolkit - an OpenGL based scientific data visualisation for GumTree
  • Cicada Processor Framework - a powerful framework automation framework that works in a similar fashion to Simulink
  • Kakadu Data Analysis Suite - a data analysis frontend that builds on top of Cicada
  • SICS Control System Support - Java adaptor to the PSI's SICS control system
  • ANSTO Neutron Beam Instrument Support - customised modules for ANSTO's neutron beam instrumentrs

The GumTree project site is currently hosting a number of projects associate with the GumTree ISEE and Eclipse RCP techonolgy.
